Unite in LBG Ramadan Challenge 2024

The holy month of Ramadan is now well underway, which is a time of fasting and giving back to those less fortunate. Ramadan, the ninth month of the Muslim calendar, is one of the most sacred times for Muslims. It is the month in which it is believed that the Holy Qur'an was sent down from heaven "as a guidance for men and women, a declaration of direction, and a means of salvation."

During this month, Muslims observe a strict fast from dawn until sunset. They are not allowed to eat or drink (even water) during daylight hours. Fasting is a private act of worship bringing about nearness to God, as well as a form of spiritual discipline and a means to empathize with those less fortunate. The fast is broken at the end of the day with prayer and a festive meal called an iftar. It is customary to visit family and friends following the iftar.

Some of the LBG Unite rep team have decided to take part in the fasting for a day, to be done on Tuesday 19th March. The team who participated last year raised £500 with Lloyds' matched funding which went towards the Turkey/Syria earthquake appeal. This year, the team are raising money for the Palestine Emergency Appeal.

You can get involved by either joining in or donating to our cause. To join in, click the 'Contact us' button at the top right of this page to let us know, and then fast from 06:02 to 18:16 on the 19th March. During this time you can't eat or drink anything. Jot down some notes or record your thoughts through the day to tell us how it went.
